Backlinks and Off-Page SEO: The Magic Factor
Backlinks are overly hyped, misunderstood and often many myths are built and newbies get confused about what works and whatnot.
Backlinks were the toughest part for me to get a grasp of when I was learning about SEO and blogging from my mentor. It seemed so confusing what works and whatnot, and what strategy should I follow after watching so much overwhelming information on YouTube.
Then when I finally learned to build backlinks in the right way, I stopped watching all of those Hyped up YouTube videos.
They are all BS, they tell you keywords that have high CPC and explain how you can rank on them get a very high CPC of $50+ per click.
And, tell you not working methods to get backlinks from other sites, or oftentimes just share with you the list of thousands of sites to build comment backlinks that hurt your site (not comment backlinks but the site where you create them from).
So this article will be a guide for you to clear all your confusion about backlinks and provide you the strategy I follow.
What Are Backlinks?
Backlinks are simply links to your site on other sites. that’s it we done here.
For instance: If hubspot.com links to any article or homepage of my site then my site ShifuGuide.com has a backlink on hubspot.com.
Now the higher authority domain backlinks you get the better for your site’s domain authority. Now, what is DA or domain authority?
It is a metric created by MOZ to measure any site’s authority and rankings by giving it a score out of 100, the higher the score, the better the authority and chances to rank on any targeted keyword.
This metric is not an official metric by any of the search engines but it pretty much helps and gives you an idea about a site’s authority.
Now you must be thinking that’s great you can create multiple high-quality backlinks and then rank your site in an instant, but the question is how will you get those high DA backlinks?
why would a high domain authority site link to your site unless your blog has super unique and famous content?
Types of backlinks
Do follow and no-follow are the two main types of backlinks, simply put a do-follow link is a better and recommended backlink for your site. Though you should not ignore building no-follow backlinks as well.
Because if you build only do-follow links that will put you under suspicion of search engines because that is not natural, naturally you get more no-follow links and fewer do-follow links.
So you gotta keep a ratio of 30:70. 30% NO-Follow links and 70% DO-Follow links.
But you know what, this is just some other BS. Don’t fall for it.
Myth Busted: You need not maintain any ratio or whatsoever for creating backlinks.
How to Build Backlinks
There are various easy and hard ways to build backlinks. To get started you should focus on easy ways to build backlinks and gradually move to a hard and better approach to getting high DA backlinks to your site.
Remember: The harder it is to get a backlink, The better is the authority of the Backlink.
Forum and Comment Backlinks:
The easiest way to create backlinks is to comment on your site’s link with an anchor text on a group site or a blog that allows commenting without approval.
Now, go to MOZ and install their chrome extension: Moz Bar it will help you to know the DA of any site you just enter and also its spam score.
If the site’s spam score is higher than 20, do not build any links from that site, it will instead hurt your site’s ranking and DA.
Web 2.0 or PNB Backlinks
Web 2.0 sites are blogs built on free blogging platforms like Wix, Weebly, Blogger, and tumblr.com. There are many sites like these, the benefit of linking your site to their free sub-domain blog is these sites already have a High DA and it will help your site get better rankings as well.
PNB links are however the risky ones, these are dedicated personal blog networks which you build and grow their DA as well to create a lot of quality content backlinks to your main website.
This way sending a signal to the search engine that the one site you have linked from various other PBNs is great and should be ranked on top.
This is a risk one because this is a kind of manipulating search engine algorithm and if you are caught your site will be seriously penalized.
How not to get caught with PBNs
Just never open the PBN site on the same computer where you operate your main money blog. Never link to only your site, provide link do-follow links to other sites as well.
Create content relevant to the money blog that is the only way to improve the quality of backlinking you provide to your money blog.
Never link every article of your money blog to one PBN and never provide a link from every article to your money blog.
Just never do any sort of things that would get your money blog under suspicion of having a connection with any of your PBNs.
Guest posting
Guest posting is a way to ask for backlinks from high authority sites, now the game of authority changes when it comes to Guest posting.
You would usually want to build normal backlinks (Comment, forum, and web 2.0) from websites with authority over 50 (preferably).
but when it comes to guest posting even a blog with an authority of just 25 or 30 is still great and considered a good domain authority.
Because the sites you will use to build normal backlinks are the same sites thousands of other bloggers are also using and you will find other blogs links there as well.
So the link juice will take time to flow to your site and it will be divided between you and various other links on the blog comments or forum.
But when it comes to guest posting rarely 10 other sites are sharing the link juice of a website from where you are getting guest post links.
Now guest posting is done when you email the website owner for proving them a good piece of content on their niche and in return, they link to your site with a do-follow attribute.
This is where it gets uneasy, when you will approach guest posts you will face a lot of rejection and a lot of people offering only paid guest posts. you will find free guest posts very rarely but they will be worth it.
This is why I quote first, that the harder it is to build backlinks the better the authority will be.
