The first disaster I faced, It wasn’t simple English content to proofread like I thought it would be, he was doing professional work so the projects he would receive were almost like coding for English.
Yes, the work was completely different from what I expected. Though you do get simple content for proofreading as well, if you want to upgrade your paygrade you will have to move up to ‘Coding for English’.
I don’t know how do I explain but try to understand with this example.
He gave me a project: A book that was to be published and needed to find errors in it, and it was not in simple English, there were codes for errors and names, and like everything.
It was coding for English, codes for the names of authors, rule if the author name should be mentioned and in which format, if the author address is mentioned that there were rules if you need to mention its phone number or not, and if you do mention the phone number then you need to mention it’s mail address as well.
Got confused yet? so like I said Coding for English.
This is the kind of job you get on a high level in proofreading and editing, but if you just want to take it as a side income then the story will be different for you.
But honestly, you will not be able to make a living out of it, just a side income if that’s what your goal is.
